Expedition Details

Fes el bali is an ancient Walled city with over 300 Madrasas & over 3000 cobbled alleyways. The 1200 year old city is famous for being home to the world’s oldest university, The Al-Qarawiyyin (established in 859 AD and taking on the title of a university in 1963).

This is a rare and unique opportunity to live and learn about Islam in an authentic historic setting.

Why Visit The Historic City of Fes
  • Masjid Qarawiyyin - built by Fatima al-Fihri, the oldest educational institute in the world.
  • The Madrasa Bou Inania was built in 1350–55 CE by Abu Inan Faris for Islamic teaching such as Fiqh.
  • The al-Attarine Madrasa was built by the Marandi Sultan Abu Sa’id Uthman II between 1323 and 1325.
  • The Andalus Mosque was founded in 859-860 by Maryam bint Mohammed bin Abdullah al-Fihri (sister of Fatima al-Fihri, who founded the Qarawiyyin Mosque at the same time).
  • The Marinid Tombs are a set of ruined monumental tombs north of Fes al-Bali. They were originally a royal necropolis for the Marinid dynasty which ruled in the 13th to 15th centuries.
